Zoo-Phytoplankton_EOV

The Zoo-Phytoplankton EOV Vlab is the implementation of the Blue-Cloud Zoo-Phytoplankton EOV products demonstrator. It provides its users with access to blue multidisciplinary data for exploring the methodology and data used in the products. There are three parts in this demonstrator: The phytoplankton products are derived from multidisciplinary (biology, physics and bio-geochemistry) data acquired from oceanographic platforms with complementary space-time resolution and coverage (e.g. vessels, satellites, Argo/BGC-Argo floats) producing global 3D fields of key phytoplankton biomass and diversity products. The zooplankton products show spatial trends and long-term anomalies in zooplankton distributions, focusing on the most abundant Copepod species from the North East Atlantic. A neural network model is built with the observed zooplankton abundances complemented with environmental parameters (oxygen, temperature, salinity, chlorophyll, depth, nutrients) to create spatio-temporal products. The phyto- and zooplankton interactions product is a framework to analyze the relative contribution of the drivers in phytoplankton dynamics in the Belgium part of the North Sea, using near real-time data. A mechanistic model is built using data from phytoplankton abundances, zooplankton abundances, and abiotic factors (nutrients, photosynthetically active radiation and temperature). It shows which are the main factors that contribute to the phytoplankton dynamics and its temporal changes.
