1st ICIS requirements gathering meeting
The first Integrated Capture Information System (ICIS) requirements gathering meeting was held June 10-12, 2008 at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) headquarters in Rome, Italy. The meeting gathered together representatives from the fisheries and aquaculture community including several regional fishery bodies such as the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) and the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) together with WorldFish Center and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department of the FAO. Also participating were FAO's Knowledge and Communication Department, the European Space Agency (representing the environmental monitoring community) and the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, project and technical directors for D4Science.
The three day meeting focused on high-level requirements gathering for the ICIS system, which has the goal of integrating regional and global level time-series datasets into a Virtual Organisation (VO) that can be used as a platform to create a number of local Virtual Research Environments (VREs) conforming to the needs of specific institutions. As part of this work, FAO defined a particular VRE scenario that looks at modelling techniques that may be able to reallocate coarse catch data based on known species distribution maps to help separate data between high-seas and coastal Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs).
